Great success of the first Pharmaceutical Care in Physical Activity and Sport Course sponsored by Laboratorios Viñas
21 May saw the end of the first Pharmaceutical Care in Physical Activity and Sport Course, held at the Centro de Alto Rendimiento (CAR) in Sant Cugat del Vallés (Barcelona), sponsored by Laboratorios Viñas and very positively assessed by those attending.
Thirty-five pharmacists attended two weeks of intensive sessions combining theory classes and practical classes given by top-class and well-qualified teachers, both from the academic and sports worlds. The subject matter specifically drawn up for this course was managed by Xavier Gasol, from the School of Sports Medicine (UB), and developed by a multidisciplinary team including doctors, physiotherapists, nutritionists, physical trainers and Olympic sportsmen and women.
One of the aspects to be underlined was the high level of interactivity between speakers, which included the famous Olympic sportsmen Carlos Castillejo and Mario Pestano, and students throughout the sessions, during the breaks and also in the workshops. The willingness of the teachers made the course highly fluid and all queries that arose during the course were resolved, which is something fundamental.
The participants took advantage of their contacts during the two weekends to set up powerful, rewarding networking between themselves.
Both teachers and students assessed the CAR facilities and the opportunity to stay there and share their experiences on a day-to-day basis with elite sportsmen and women from various sports very positively. The course's primary objective has thus been met: to provide the participating pharmacist with complete, professional training in order to be able to advise anyone, irrespective of the sport they practice, on how to benefit their health through physical activity.
The pharmacist, as a health professional, carries out a great amount of work in the community and is the first health professional a citizen can go to for advice. Therefore, Laboratorios Viñas is providing training conceived by and for this group, now also in the sport sector, providing the pharmacist with appropriate tools as used by elite sports professionals, to be able to deal more specifically with any amateur sports enthusiasts who go to the pharmacy.
The online course continues until November
The online version of this course will continue until November, as anticipated Two hundred pharmacists are following this specific on-line format, which offers an ample, up-to-date textual base, accompanied by tables, figures, decision-making algorithms, additional information and bibliographical references, which give it exceptional added value. In reality, it is the same content as the in-class course adapted to another format and therefore the training will effectively be the same for groups that have taken part in both courses in 2016.
Students have a permanent on-line tutorship service until the end of the course in which they can have all their queries answered quickly and easily. Furthermore, the Technical Secretary will be available to them throughout this period.
