Charity Projects 2014-2015

Laboratorios Viñas has been cooperating for several years with various non-profit organisations on different health and social development projects to combat poverty and contribute to the development of the most disadvantaged communities. Since 2007, Laboratorios Viñas has successively renewed its cooperation agreement with FARMA MUNDI, an NGO that promotes humanitarian aid actions to deal with emergency situations among the most vulnerable populations worldwide. Laboratorios Viñas makes financial contributions so that the Humanitarian Emergency Aid Fund (FAHE) can intervene in humanitarian catastrophes by sending medicines and emergency kits. This agreement made it possible to provide humanitarian aid for 109,000 people during 2014 by undertaking twelve emergency interventions in eleven countries: Kenya, DR Congo, Uganda, Mali, Serbia, Dominican Republic, Syria, Haiti, Liberia, Palestine and Colombia. Under the "Companies with a Heart” programmes run by CÁRITAS DIOCESANA, in 2014 and 2015 Laboratorios Viñas has contributed both to the “Work with a Heart” project in recruitment and customised support to improve the employability of people with difficulties in accessing the labour market, and also to the Marialar Shelters, specifically in programmes for care, integral protection and educational support for women and their children who are at risk or socially excluded.Laboratorios Viñas has also cooperated with the Torre Baró Open Centre in social and educational support activities for children and families with socio-economic difficulties. Since 2008, the Cooperation Agreements between OXFAM INTERMÓN and Laboratorios Viñas have been covering development projects in third world countries. In 2014 and 2015, a project for rural development and combating hunger in Mauritania was implemented and another project is currently under way for incorporation of family farming into the stevia market in Paraguay. With the BARCELONA FOOD BANK FOUNDATION and as part of its “More children's food” project, in 2015 Laboratorios Viñas once again contributed to the purchase of powdered baby milk, which has the basic aim of donating two tins of this essential foodstuff every month for babies between 6 and 12 months old.In addition, Laboratorios Viñas has cooperated with the SPANISH FOOD BANK FEDERATION (FESBAL) by making a special contribution for the Christmas season.

Laboratorios Viñas at the SEMERGEN National Congress in Valencia

Laboratorios Viñas at the SEMERGEN National Congress in Valencia

The 37th National Congress of the Spanish Association of Primary Care Doctors (SEMERGEN) was held in Valencia from 14th to 17th October 2015. The congress was attended by over 3,800 doctors and more than 2,500 events were held, demonstrating how interested primary care professionals are in training and keeping up to date with new developments. Among these events was the Satellite Symposium organised by Laboratorios Viñas entitled “Sleep and mood disorders: a frequent connection” which was moderated by Dr. E. Zamorano (National Coordinator of the SEMERGEN Sleep Section Work Group) in which Dr. J. C. Caballero (General Practitioner and Geriatrics Specialist, expert in sleep, from Bilbao) and Dr. J. L. Galmés (Head of Clinical Research at Laboratorios Viñas) took part. The panel discussed a common problem, insomnia associated with low moods, which triggers a vicious circle that can even lead to depression. After analysing the many aspects of the problem, Dr. Caballero discussed various ways of treating it from a medical point of view, emphasising that abuse of benzodiazepines should be stopped, while Dr. J. L. Galmés focused on explaining a new combination of active substances, MelatoZinc, the composition of which contains melatonin and zinc, and which may be suitable and complementary when used as a first-line therapy in patients who suffer from these disorders. On the one hand, melatonin improves sleep quality and, on the other, zinc acts directly on mood and cognitive function, and both substances are very safe to use. Interest in the matter was reflected by the large number of doctors who attended and in the many questions that were asked during the final discussion.

Laboratorios Viñas organises a charity race with Farmamundi

Laboratorios Viñas organises a charity race with Farmamundi

The fable of the hare and the tortoise was the idea that inspired Radio Salil to organise its first charity race, a race for pharmacists in which everyone was able to take part and in which every kilometre that was run counted. The race was held on 25 October in Zaragoza, at the Water Park, and it had record levels of participation, therefore achieving the expectations established for the charity event.  The participants could choose between being a strong and constant tortoise or a speedy and astute hare. On this occasion it didn't matter who came first, but rather how many kilometres were run, as Radio Salil of Laboratorios Viñas agreed to donate €1 to Farmamundi for every kilometre that was run by the participants. There were two race options, one of  5 km and another of 10 km, and more than 250 runners took part in the event, of which 224 reached the finishing line. The donation from Laboratorios Viñas amounted to €1,565, which Farmamundi will put towards its cooperation projects for development and humanitarian aid.  “Thanks to selfless acts like that of Laboratorios Viñas, with whom we have worked together for years, we can ensure the sustainability of our projects in the South and be prepared to act quickly in emergencies.  We want to thank all of the participants in the race for their enthusiasm in the competition and we hope that it will be the first of many editions", commented the representative for Farmamundi in Aragon, Salvador Valero. Farmamundi is a charity for cooperation in development projects, humanitarian aid and emergencies, which was established in 1991 in order to guarantee health as a universal right.  Its mission is to contributetowards the guarantee of health as a universal right for the most vulnerable people in poor countries, by means of cooperation measures that benefit sustainable development processes, educational campaigns for development and involvement, with particular emphasis on access to essential medicines and with the professional distribution of medicines, materials and health facilities, while endeavouring to involve its social surroundings in the charity work. Laboratorios Viñas has been a member of the Farmamundi Emergency Fund since 2007, and takes part every year, within its CSR policy, in supporting humanitarian interventions that help to ease the critical situation of healthcare and food supplies that so many families face.  In 2015, it was involved in various projects aimed at slowing down HIV in Uganda, supporting the healthcare and food assistance in Nepal, and in its recent project, which is still under way, of being involved in the serious migration crisis currently being experienced in Europe, with the distribution of food, hygiene kits and shelter in Serbia for Syrian refugee families on the border with Hungary and Croatia.

In the autumn, Vitacrecil suits your hair perfectly

In the autumn, Vitacrecil suits your hair perfectly

“Don’t worry, life starts all over again in the autumn” The Great Gatsby If there’s anything that characterises the autumn, it’s that the days get shorter, the temperature gets milder and we begin to notice our hair conspicuously falling out. Don’t panic! Like the mammals that we are, we're simply shedding our hair and it’s just normal at this time of year for a more abundant hair loss to occur. “The truth is that these hairs died in the spring, but it takes several months for them to be shed”, explains Ramon Grimalt, Professor of Dermatology at the Universidad de Barcelona and a member of the Spanish Academy of Dermatology (AEDV). They take about three months from the time they die until they finally fall out and we see them on our pillow or in the shower. The causes that provoke such hair loss are many and varied. According to many specialists, its main determinants are genetic factors, lifestyle and diet. Among these three causes, the first is inevitable but you can control the last two. Although it's not a serious problem in most cases, the general perception tends to be just the opposite. After all, loosing hair --especially for a woman-- has negative consequences at the aesthetic level and can also affect the woman’s well-being from an emotional point of view. To be able to treat these “seasonal hair losses”, you should identify them correctly to make it possible to treat them as soon as possible. If the typical problem is transitory hair loss, there are suitable solutions: concentrated regenerating and fortifying tonics or dietary supplements, right at the end of the holidays, for example. Laboratorios Viñas, a market leader in dietary supplements for the hair, offers several remedies for hair loss, such as Vitacrecil Complex Forte, a dietary supplement with a balanced combination of nutrients to strengthen hair and nails. Its reinforced formula includes, among other ingredients: zinc, whose proper intake helps to maintain the hair and nails in optimum condition; biotin, a vitamin that contributes to normal hair maintenance when taken in sufficient amounts; and cystine, which is a sulphur-containing amino acid constituent of keratin, the main component of hair and nails.
