Laboratorios Viñas sponsors the 2015 Dermopinion Forum

Laboratorios Viñas sponsors the 2015 Dermopinion Forum

On the 15th and 16th of January, Laboratorios Viñas was present as a sponsor at the “7th Dermopinion Forum Course on Dermatology and Adolescence,” which was held in the Real Casa de la Moneda in Madrid.   Nearly 300 paediatricians, primary care doctors and residents in dermatology attended this course, which aims to promote continuing education on the main dermatological diseases of childhood and adolescence and a multidisciplinary approach to them.   Laboratorios Viñas presented its recently-released products, Molusk and Septomida spray.   With its special applicator, Molusk is highly effective and active in eliminating Molluscum contagiosum lesions (the well-known swimming pool “water warts”). The doctors present were greatly interested in the product because, although the active ingredient in Molusk -10% potassium hydroxide- is known to be extremely effective due to its caustic and cauterising action, it has to be used very precisely, dabbing on only the lesion, an issue solved by Molusk’s high-precision conical brush that becomes narrower and more pointed in contact with the solution. Additional safety comes with Molusk’s anti-tip valve, which prevents or reduces the possibility of fluid leakage if the container is accidentally dropped.   Septomida spray was also of great interest because of the very practical and easy-to-use format of the well-known classic “3-Sulphate Water” formula. This solution has been proven to be anti-exudative and to promote the healing process in types of acute exudative dermatitis, such as nappy rash, atopic flare-up, flexural eczema, intertrigo, burns and wounds, as well as in the de-crusting of chickenpox and impetigo. The spray makes application much easier.   In addition to how easy Septomida spray is to use, it is safe and non-irritating, does not stain and can be used at any age.

Radio Salil and the CAR presented

Radio Salil and the CAR presented "How to be a good athlete"

The CAR (High Performance Centre for athletes) and RADIO SALIL joined forces once again to pass on their knowledge of sports medicine, which has been acquired over many years, and shared it with pharmacists across Spain.    The last study made by both institutions has been summarised in a list of "Recommendations for health in sport", ten tips to help athletes enjoy their sports and pharmacists give them the best possible advice. The guidelines include the following:   1.- Healthy habits and hygiene: “Start by looking after yourself” 2.- Realistic schedule and training plan: "Organise your training plan" 3.- Equipment and material: "Choose the right material" 4.- Get advice "Hydration and nutrition: “Make sure you recover the energy you consume" 5.- Preparing for physical exercise: “Warm up before each session" 6.- Recovery and active cooling down: "The recovery is part of training" 7.- Supplements: "Do you need supplements? Get advice" 8.- How to approach the competition: "Enjoy competing" 9.- Sport at different times of life: "A lifetime enjoying sport" 10.- The most common injuries: "Running injuries"     To inform pharmacists of these conclusions so they can advise athletes who go to their pharmacies, Radio Salil and the CAR plan to present the guidelines at different pharmaceutical societies across Spain over the year.   The first presentations took place at the societies of Barcelona and Murcia on 20 and 27 November, respectively. They were attended by more than 300 of the societies’ members, who enjoyed the speakers' explanations of the theory and took part in a practical experience to see the advice in action.   The speakers were multi-discipline experts from the CAR: Doctor Til, Head Physician at the CAR of Sant Cugat, the Health Consortium of Terrassa and coordinator of this project; Doctor Bellver, Miguel Ángel Cos, Physiotherapist at the CAR of Sant Cugat and the RFEA (Royal Federation of Athletics of Spain), the Olympic athletes Erika Villaécija, World and European swimming champion and Olympic champion, Athens 2004, Peking 2008 and London 2012, and Alba Cabello, silver-medallist in synchronised swimming at the Peking Olympic Game 2008, and bronze-medallist at the London Olympic Games 2012. The practical was supervised by the physiotherapist with the help of the Olympic medallists.

Vitacrecil Complex Forte and consultations for hair loss

Vitacrecil Complex Forte and consultations for hair loss

At this time of year, many people flock to the pharmacy with concerns about hair loss. Hair loss is a normal process which is part of its life cycle. It is not unusual to lose up to 100 strands of hair throughout the day, but anywhere above that figure, this loss can be deemed “excessive" and other factors may be involved. It is therefore important to talk to a specialist who will determine the cause of alopecia and prescribe the most appropriate treatment. Complementary products are available from pharmacists which help reduce hair loss and improve its appearance.   During the summer, the hair is exposed to more external aggressions, and sunlight can damage its fibres. This is why come autumn, we often notice increased hair loss. A further negative factor associated with autumn is "post-holiday stress" which we should try to control with natural remedies, exercise or relaxation techniques.   In many cases, hair loss may be triggered or intensified by a lack of essential nutrients. Deficiencies of certain amino-acids, vitamins and trace elements, caused by insufficient intake (unbalanced diet, weight-loss, etc.) or increased requirements (stress, pregnancy, breastfeeding or menopause) cause the body to prioritise the distribution of its resources to what is most important. Because hair is not essential to survival, it is the first thing to show symptoms of such nutritional deficiencies.   In these cases, it is advisable to take supplements of amino acids, vitamins and trace elements which play a role in hair follicle activity and help to nourish the hair from the inside. Although the effects are usually seen after the first month, it is recommended to continue treatment for three months.   In addition, the use of complementary products: gentle, high-conditioning shampoos, protective and regenerating masks, etc. also help to maintain healthy, good-looking hair.

RADIO SALIL and the CAR collaborate in various research projects on health and sport.

RADIO SALIL and the CAR collaborate in various research projects on health and sport.

Radio Salil, the long-established product from Laboratorios Viñas, and the CAR (High Performance Centre) in Sant Cugat are collaborating in an innovative project to analyse various aspects of health and sport, aiming to make advances in the prevention of, and recovery from, injuries and muscle fatigue. In the context of this collaboration, two Focus Group meetings have taken place at the High Performance Centre and at the Barcelona College of Pharmacists, covering sports injuries, their prevention and recovery, and about muscle fatigue. A team of experts from Viñas and the CAR debated the various themes in these Focus Groups. The participants from the Centre were Luís Til, head of the Department of Medicine at the CAR and project coordinator; Dr Carmen Porcar, specialist in sports medicine; Guillem Rodríguez and Miquel Àngel Cos, physiotherapists; Saioa Segura, nutritionist; Victoria Pons, physiologist; Beatriz Galilea and Eduardo Amblar, sports psychologists; Gabriel Esparza, trainer and head of the Catalan High Performance Office; Erika Villaécija, Olympic swimmer, and Joel González, Gold medallist in Taekwondo at London 2012, also took part. The Radio Salil team also brought their experts, in this case José Antonio Aznar, Commercial Director, who chaired the sessions; Maite González, Product Manager and the pharmacists Arantxa Sainz de los Terreros and José Luis Galmés. In addition, Marta Crespo, Gloria Piera, Belén Hidalgo and Francesc Vila from the Barcelona College of Pharmacists also took part. The conclusions of the second Focus Group have been presented at the Self-Care Congress held in Madrid on 23 & 24 October. Afterwards, Radio Salil and Dr Til prepared an article that brings together the conclusions and reflections that arose during this exchange of knowledge. The CAR brings to these projects the experience it has gained from its daily work with elite sportsmen and sportswomen, which is applicable to the general population, so fulfilling Radio Salil's objective of communicating the results of these studies to pharmacists.
