Body hygiene

Body hygiene is an essential aspect of basic care so that the skin stays in good condition.

Sweating is a physiological action whereby the skin releases toxins and controls body temperature. Sweat, by itself, is odourless and only produces a characteristic odour when exposed to moisture in the presence of the skin's bacterial flora, which is responsible for the fermentation and decomposition process that causes body odour.

Sweat glands

The skin has two types of sweat glands: the eccrine glands and the apocrine glands. Both are responsible for sweat production.

Eccrine glands are found almost throughout the body and open directly onto the surface of the skin.

The apocrine glands are located in the areas where there is an abundance of hair follicles: such as the armpits, groins or the scalp. These glands are activated by emotional stimuli and are latent until puberty, at which time they begin to secrete substances.

Excessive sweating

Excessive sweating can be due to a wide range of factors.

Heat, physical exertion, such as partaking in physically intense activities, and emotional or nervous states are the main causes leading to increased sweating. Many people suffer from the inconveniences of excessive sweating, which causes situations of discomfort and insecurity.

Deodorants vs. Antiperspirants

There is general confusion about what antiperspirants and deodorants do. Antiperspirants block the expulsion of sweat by forming blockages in the sweat duct, thus slowing down the flow of sweat to the surface of the eccrine gland. On the other hand, deodorants eliminate or counteract armpit odour, delaying the development of odour, reducing the perception of odour or masking it, thanks to the use of fragrances.

Deodorants are designed to eliminate underarm odour, not to reduce or eliminate perspiration, making them the best option for people who do not have sweat problems, but want to feel fresh and odour free.
