R&D&i

Laboratorios Viñas constantly researches and develops new therapeutic solutions with the goal of improving people's quality of life and well-being

The products developed and marketed by Laboratorios Viñas from its founding to the present day are the result of the work carried out by our Research Team in our own laboratories with occasional collaborations with different Universities and Public Research Bodies, both in Spain and abroad. Today, 90% of Laboratorios Viñas sales derive from original products designed by our R&D team.

The development of the products marketed by Laboratorios Viñas involves all phases of R&D, from the synthesis of new molecules with therapeutic activity to the running of clinical trials to demonstrate their safety and efficacy before going to market.

The Laboratorios Viñas Research Department is divided into four divisions: chemical, pharmacological, pharmaceutical technology and clinical.

Chemical research

Chemical research

In the chemical research division, the implementation of procedures for the synthesis in the laboratory of molecules with therapeutic potential (both original molecules and known active ingredients) is carried out and new industrial production processes are designed ranging from procedure optimisation to industrial upscaling to our own pilot plant or other industrial plants.

We also generate all of the technical and regulatory documentation (EDMF), as well as production documentation in line with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). The results of our chemical research are channelled into national and international patents and the Drug Master File (DMF) of the molecules researched.

Pharmacological research

Pharmacological research

The pharmacological research division is focused on performing all necessary investigations to comply with the requirements for human medicinal product registration so as to guarantee efficacy and safety. Today, given the vast complexity of these investigations, they are outsourced to external specialist centres.

Our pharmacological research studies have led to several scientific publications in international journals and the inclusion of the monograph for the original active ingredient zinc acexamate in the European Pharmacopoeia.

Pharmaceutical technology research

Pharmaceutical technology research

The pharmaceutical technology research division is focused on developing suitable topical and oral formulas to allow the active ingredients to reach maximum efficacy and safety. This is where we select the pharmaceutical forms and suitable excipients, as well as establishing the product’s physical, chemical and organoleptic characteristics and carrying out stability studies.

Our lines of research have led to product presentations in the form of capsules, suspensions, gels, emulsions, solutions, impregnated plugs and aerosols. Of note is the original format of orodispersible sticks to treat aphthous ulcers in children. Our pharmaceutical technology research studies have allowed us to constantly innovate across an array of original medicinal and dermatological products.

Clinical research

Clinical research

The clinical research division is focused on investigating the efficacy and safety of medicinal products before their market launch through clinical trials on humans. In this area, we design and prepare protocols, source centres to run clinical trials (phase I to IV), arrange the necessary authorisations, monitor results and perform statistical analysis.

Our clinical trials have led to original scientific articles published in national and international journals.

Research accomplishments

Research accomplishments

Throughout its history, thanks to its own research, Laboratorios Viñas has launched a great many products to treat a variety of pathologies, paying special attention to treatments applied to the skin. Indeed, the product RADIOSALIL, which has evolved over the years, was first marketed in 1913 for the topical treatment of inflammatory processes.

Other classic topical medicinal products developed by the R&D Department include VIREXEN, which is based on idoxuridine, the first antiviral described for the treatment of herpes; LODERM, the first topical erythromycin to treat acne; and DENTISPRAY, the first dental anaesthetic for home use; not forgetting our products to treat aphthous ulcers (ORALSONE), molluscum contagiosum (MOLUSK), hyperkeratosis (VASELIX), cutaneous hyperpigmentation (PIGMENTASA) and neuropathic pain (CAPSICIN).

The Laboratorios Viñas R&D team has also developed a whole range of products to care for various skin disorders.

The experience acquired over the years with this type of topical formulas subject to highly complex development has led our products to be recognised by specialist doctors.
