R&D&i

R&D&i

Laboratorios Viñas is constantly researching and developing new therapeutic solutions in order to improve people's quality of life and well-being.
The company's scientific capacity and infrastructure have permitted its research team to successfully develop new medicines, medical devices, food supplements and dermopharmaceutical products. This development covers the synthesis of original molecules, pharmaco-toxicological studies developing pharmaceuticals and conducting clinical trials to demonstrate their efficacy and safety. The research area is therefore divided into four units: Chemical, Pharmacological, Development Pharmaceutics and Clinical.
Chemical research

Chemical research

In the chemical research department the following activities take place: synthesis of original molecules with therapeutic potential (new molecules and with other known active ingredients), design of new intermediates and processes, characterisation of impurities, optimisation of processes and industrial escalation in our own pilot plant or in collaboration with an industrial plant, development of technical and regulatory documentation (EDMF), and manufacturing following GMP rules. From the results of the chemical research, national and international patents and the DMF of the molecules investigated are obtained.
Pharmacological research

Pharmacological research

The pharmacological research department focuses on studying the activity of the new molecules obtained in the Chemical department. The following are analysed in Pharmacology: screening active ingredients and establishing (in our own or external centres) the pharmacodynamic, toxicological and pharmacokinetic profiles, all of which are needed to comply with the regulatory requirements for medicines for human use. The pharmacological research work has generated a number of scientific articles in international journals and the inclusion of the monograph on the original active ingredient, zinc acexamate, in the European Pharmacopoeia.
Pharmaceutical technology research

Pharmaceutical technology research

The pharmaceutical technology research department focuses on the development of different topical and oral forms that will allow for vectoring the active ingredients, so that they have the maximum efficacy and a suitable tolerance. In this department the following are studied: project viability, selection of the pharmaceutical form, selection of the appropriate excipients, establishing physicochemical and organoleptic characteristics and applicability tests and stability studies.

The research lines have centred on pharmaceutical forms, including suspensions, gels, emulsions, solutions, impregnated supports, sprays, aerosols, etc. The pharmaceutical research studies have allowed us to make constant innovations in a variety of medicines and original dermatological products.
Clinical research

Clinical research

The clinical research department focuses on studying the efficacy and safety of medicinal products before they are marketed, by performing clinical trials on humans. This department is involved in developing protocols, searching for sites for performing clinical trials (Phases I, II and III), performing the authorisation procedures and carrying out statistical analyses of the results.

In this department, the design, monitoring and statistical analysis of the results of the trials conducted in hospitals also take place. The clinical trials have led to original scientific articles published in national and international journals.
