Laboratorios Viñas continues to support the Farmamundi Emergency Fund in 2017

17-01-2018

The Farmamundi Emergency Fund, which we have been collaborating with for over ten years, is drawing 2017 to a close with 14 initiatives focused on the provision of medications, hygiene and food kits, as well as healthcare and training.

It has been possible to improve the health and quality of life of over 91,000 people — especially women and children under five — thanks to the 14 initiatives organised by the Farmamundi Humanitarian Action and Emergency Fund in 2017, acting in 12 countries: Nicaragua, Haiti, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Peru, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, southern Sudan/Uganda, Kenya and Mali.

This NGO, which we have worked with non-stop for over a decade, has primarily directed its funds towards the provision of essential medications, hygiene, shelter and staple food kits, as well as healthcare and training.

“Highlights from this year’s initiatives include healthcare, food and shelter provision for families of Syrian refugees, southern Sudanese women in Uganda and assistance in the slums of the Kenyan capital Nairobi”, explains Farmamundi’s managing director, Joan Peris.

Another key initiative was the provision of food packs and infant formula to over 4,000 people in Khan Younis on the Gaza Strip, in view of the ongoing blockade and reports of a deterioration in the humanitarian situation, as was the NGO’s support of El Salvador’s Hospital Nacional Rosales with medication to treat a flu (influenza) outbreak.

Furthermore, around 400 families in the communities most affected by hurricanes Irma and Maria in the Dominican Republic received hygiene and food kits, bottled drinking water and protection and shelter kits. The living conditions of 5,000 people affected by hurricane Matthew (Haiti) were also improved, with healthcare provision in the form of mobile clinics and the supply of hygiene kits, mosquito nets, drinking water and food, and other necessities.

Farmamundi is grateful for the effort and commitment of all of the Emergency Fund’s member organisations: “Without their dedication, it would not be possible to carry out these initiatives each year when emergencies arise, or to assist communities in a chronic state of crisis with the necessary agility and reliability.”
