Laboratorios Viñas organises a charity race with Farmamundi

The fable of the hare and the tortoise was the idea that inspired Radio Salil to organise its first charity race, a race for pharmacists in which everyone was able to take part and in which every kilometre that was run counted.

The race was held on 25 October in Zaragoza, at the Water Park, and it had record levels of participation, therefore achieving the expectations established for the charity event.  The participants could choose between being a strong and constant tortoise or a speedy and astute hare.

On this occasion it didn't matter who came first, but rather how many kilometres were run, as Radio Salil of Laboratorios Viñas agreed to donate €1 to Farmamundi for every kilometre that was run by the participants.

There were two race options, one of  5 km and another of 10 km, and more than 250 runners took part in the event, of which 224 reached the finishing line. The donation from Laboratorios Viñas amounted to €1,565, which Farmamundi will put towards its cooperation projects for development and humanitarian aid.  “Thanks to selfless acts like that of Laboratorios Viñas, with whom we have worked together for years, we can ensure the sustainability of our projects in the South and be prepared to act quickly in emergencies.  We want to thank all of the participants in the race for their enthusiasm in the competition and we hope that it will be the first of many editions", commented the representative for Farmamundi in Aragon, Salvador Valero.

Farmamundi is a charity for cooperation in development projects, humanitarian aid and emergencies, which was established in 1991 in order to guarantee health as a universal right.  Its mission is to contributetowards the guarantee of health as a universal right for the most vulnerable people in poor countries, by means of cooperation measures that benefit sustainable development processes, educational campaigns for development and involvement, with particular emphasis on access to essential medicines and with the professional distribution of medicines, materials and health facilities, while endeavouring to involve its social surroundings in the charity work.

Laboratorios Viñas has been a member of the Farmamundi Emergency Fund since 2007, and takes part every year, within its CSR policy, in supporting humanitarian interventions that help to ease the critical situation of healthcare and food supplies that so many families face.  In 2015, it was involved in various projects aimed at slowing down HIV in Uganda, supporting the healthcare and food assistance in Nepal, and in its recent project, which is still under way, of being involved in the serious migration crisis currently being experienced in Europe, with the distribution of food, hygiene kits and shelter in Serbia for Syrian refugee families on the border with Hungary and Croatia.
